first time purchaser here. Well, I thought the other reviewers that found the chicken tough were not handling the chicken properly in their cooking until I made soup with my chicken. Ugh! It was tough just like the other reviewers claimed! I was disappointed as I have health issues that require meat to be frozen immediately and this was the only company I could find that does this. I guess they haven't gotten a new distributer after all. I won't be buying again.
From USWM: Thank you for your valued feedback. We are standing by if you would like to contact one of our customer service team members regarding the chicken at 877-383-0051.

AMAZING...Changed Supplier?
This was the first time I’ve purchased these and I was a bit hesitant because of some of the reviews but noticed they were older reviews so I decided to give them a try. Mine were absolutely DELICIOUS!! I’m not sure if you all have switched suppliers or what but I had no issues. I smoked ours on a wood pellet smoker and the meat fell of the bone. Juicy and delicious. I will definitely be purchasing these on a regular basis. I would like to have access to nutritional information.

I love these free range chickens. I usually cook them in my pressure cooker or slow cooker and they turn out great!

I must agree with the previous review - while I did not find it disgusting I did find the meat tough and lacking flavor, and unusually large. Chickens , especially those who are pasture raised, do not bulk up this big - I've raised chickens myself. I have tried the bone in breasts as well and was disappointed. Love all other products I've received, outstanding beef and Pork products - but the chicken, not so much.
*From USW Meats- We are sorry for your disappointment with the baby free range chicken leg quarters! We have issued a refund to your card and welcome your honest feedback at any time. With sincere gratitude, The US Wellness Meats Team

Don't understand the complaints...
The chicken is delicious. I roast it at 350 degrees in an open pan, basted with coconut oil, until done. A five pound package is a lot to cook up at one time for two people--we have it for dinner, then lunch and dinner the day after. The texture and taste are very good.

I was really confused to receive an e-mail from US Wellness just now advertising a sale on this item and spotlighting reviews describing this particular offering as 'heaven' and 'what chicken should be'. I had the same horrible experience with this item as Laura and Kathy and recently left a pretty detailed review both testifying to that fact and disputing the idea that this is the norm for free range chicken. My review was not approved/published while the favorable reviews posted after mine were.
USWM - Thank you for taking the time to review our Free Range Chicken Leg Quarters. We are truly very sorry to hear that you were disappointed in the product. We have found that this is a love/hate product. Our customers either love this product and rave about it or absolutely hate it. Our products will not always be for everyone. We are also very sorry that your first one did not get published. I can assure you that it was not received or we would have been happy to publish the review. We welcome all feedback good and bad as this is what helps us grow as a company and become better for our customers. Again, we are truly very sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Kind regards, The US Wellness Meats Team

These leg quarters were the meat of the Gods. Baked low temperature for 2 hours covered in Rosemary.
We got 5 quarters which was enough for two meals.

What Free Range Chicken Should Be
I got 7 large whole legs in my order. These taste excellent, with none of that funky smell you get from conventional chicken. And the texture is just what FREE RANGE chicken should be: more body and chew to the meat, not soft and mushy. Conventional chicken meat is soft because the chickens do not get to use their muscles, thus the meat is soft. Just as with us, sickly chickens have soft meat. Love the taste, size, and texture of these, will order again!

To those who think these chicken legs are "too large" and "tough"
It seems to me that you've only had supermarket chicken, or ones raised in as unhealthy an environment as mass confined chickens are. Yes, these healthy chickens are much, much larger than horribly sick chickens are, and their flesh isn't soft and flabbly because they get to run around all day. Did you take a look at the bones? These are gigantic and are fluted, compared to the skinny, straight little fragile bones of very sick chickens.
I would suggest you try these again, and plan on cooking them at a lower temperature for a little longer (you can use higher heat to crisp the skins, and then turn it down to cook), because they don't fry up fast and turn out tender on high heat like the sick ones do. That's what I do, and mine are so much more delicious than the sick ones could ever be!

We were really surprised first of all at how large these pieces were! I know the animals are not supposed to get antibiotics but the size of these makes me wonder. Also the meat was extremely tough (could hardly cut it with a knife) just like another reviewer said - extremely disappointing esp since most other items we have ordered have been great! Don't think we will order these again unless USWM can give us some assurance things have changed.
USWM- We are truly very sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with our Chicken Leg Quarters. We will certainly check into this issue with our cutting crew and management team. We do sell the chicken thighs and legs in packs by themselves, these products seem to be a better seller than the leg quarters themselves. We would recommend trying those products next time instead. Again, we are truly very sorry for the inconvenience.
Kind regards,
The US Wellness Meats Team

Have ordered a couple times. No problems. As reported above. Have grilled them. Last time, We cut the thighs from the drumsticks and did a crockpot dinner. Yummy. Will order again.

I have ordered chicken legs in the past, they have been small, flavorful, easy to cook and add to recipes. I clearly didn't read the description, because I was shocked at the size of these legs; easily over a pound each. They came badly trimmed, with the flesh and bone from the area past the thigh still connected, feathers still attached to the skin, and blood clots stuck to the undersides. The meat was chewy and tough and the skin was inedible. Extremely disappointing, a waste of money.
USWM- We are truly very sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience with our product. We have not heard similar complaints but we will keep our eye out for this and reach out to our distributor directly and express our concerns on this issue. Each animal is harvested at different maturities, so maybe this was an older animal and that's why it was bigger and not as wonderful as a younger bird.
Again, we are truly very sorry.
Thank you for the kind words about the Free Range Chicken Leg Quarters in the past.
Best wishes,
The US Wellness Meats Team
